Ashura Movement

January 30, 2007 / by alvarezgalloso

IRIB News dedicated an article on the Ashura Movement, its philosophy, and the concept of freedom according to the Imam Hussein on its website. IRIB News continued to talk about the history of various Islamic Revolutions in the World.

Imam Hussein's Writings and Concepts are universal even though they have originated centuries ago. Imam Hussein has written that Muslims and Non Muslims do not have to accept oppressive and hegemonious governments [regardless of its origins].  Imam Hussein further wrote that those who do not rise against tyrannical governments are part of the problem instead of the solution.Imam Hussein believed in the dignity of the human being and the need to maintain such dignity.

According to Imam Hussein, freedom is defined within spiritual values and teachings which guarantees the growth of the human being and their freedom. Imam Hussein had as his mission the liberation of the human being via the revival of their lost identity and culture. Imam Hussein reminded people that God created Man for a purpose and that life is a struggle for success and continuous improvement.

This is something that has been lacking in Western Societies that promote Abortion, Violence, Rights for Immoral Acts, and so called Human Rights that apply to some people [a governing elite] and not to others.

Ashura are stories based on loyalty, bravery, piety, and self sacrifice.  Karbala [which is a part of Ashura] stirs up the conscience and has been known to warm even the coldest hearts. Karbala has been known to distinguish between the truth and the lies in life.

Mahatma Gandhi [as well as other leaders in the struggles for the improvement of human dignity] admits to having received his inspiration from the writings of Imam Hussein. This is something that the American Continent [including the USA] might want to read. The other book I would also recommend is the Ruhnama [Turkmenistan]
